Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians and other healthcare professionals in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating patients. As part of a newly established health center, the Laboratory Technician will play a key role in setting up laboratory systems, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring efficient daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and urinalysis.
Collect, label, and process patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, etc.).
Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment.
Record and analyze test results accurately.
Report abnormal results promptly to the supervising physician.
Quality Control & Compliance
Maintain quality control procedures and documentation.
Ensure compliance with health regulations and laboratory standards.
Follow infection control and safety protocols.
Assist in developing laboratory SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
Equipment & Inventory Management
Monitor laboratory supplies and reagents.
Maintain proper storage conditions for specimens and chemicals.
Coordinate equipment servicing and preventive maintenance.
Assist in procurement of laboratory materials.
Laboratory Setup
Assist in setting up laboratory workflows and documentation systems.
Support accreditation and licensing processes.
Help establish record-keeping systems both manual and electronic.
Participate in developing laboratory policies.
Administrative & Team Support
Maintain accurate patient records and test documentation.
Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and administrative staff.
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications & Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
Valid professional certification/license as required by local regulations.
Minimum [1–3] years of laboratory experience (experience in a start-up facility is an advantage).
Knowledge of laboratory quality standards and safety regulations.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Basic computer proficiency (laboratory information systems preferred).
