    PROGRAM AND POSITION SUMMARY
    The Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI) has launched the Energizing Women and Youth in Agri-Food System (EWAS) project to tackle unemployment and promote green energy in the agricultural value chain, focusing on young women. ATI integrates youth employment, gender equality, climate-smart practices, and nutrition-sensitive agriculture across its programs to create sustainable job opportunities and build resilience. ATI currently works with over 3 million smallholder farmers, including 540,300 women and youths, through its Agricultural Commercialization Clusters (ACC) and digital agriculture programs. Additionally, the ADEY program also creates jobs for women and youths in ACC regions and Somali by improving access to markets and strengthening MSMEs. Leveraging ATI’s experience, EWAS project aims to create over 4,100 jobs for young women by establishing grain milling, horticulture collection centers, and honey processing enterprises, supported by capacity-building, skills development, and essential equipment.
    The Senior Technical Expert II (STE-II) should have strong expertise in Apiculture, value addition, agribusiness, and stakeholder management, with a commitment to enhancing the lives of young women. The expert will provide technical guidance and oversee the implementation of EWAS project interventions at the federal level, ensuring timely and high-quality results. Responsibilities include planning, executing, monitoring, and advising the project manager and regional teams, while also facilitating the establishment of young women-owned honey processing. Reporting directly to the Project Coordinator at the head office, the expert will collaborate with all ACC project leaders and ADEY’s senior project officers and primarily work with regional senior project officers under the direction of the Project Team Leader, ACC’s director, and the regional senior director.
    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assist the project manager with project management, annual planning, budgeting, and ensuring that the project’s implementation and budget utilization align with planned activities.
    Actively engage in supervision, monitoring and technical backstopping, review, and frequent reporting to ensure proper implementation as per the projects annual plan.
    Support the development of selection criteria for beneficiaries in In Apiculture value chain for the regions.
    Critically support the establishment and monitoring of young women-led enterprises, ensuring progress follows key principles and proper implementation of value chain activities.
    Assist the regional livestock team in identifying and prioritizing the knowledge and skill gaps of targeted youth (especially women) throughout the value chain.
    Map infrastructures established for apiculture agribusiness by federal and regional partners across project regions and facilitate youth engagement in the business in collaboration with other partners.
    Assist implementation and provide support in resolving strategic and operational problems that arise over the course of the project lifetime.
    Provide technical advisory services and capacity-building support on matters related to the Apiculture value chain to the project execution team and stakeholders.
    Provide technical support during the procurement, installation and calibration of honey collection related machineries and equipment.
    Integrate and ensure implementation of young women centric design approaches in the program.
    Closely work with ADEY, CCP, Livestock Commercialization (LC) and other related project teams.
    Implement other activities as required by subprogram, ACC program or the ATI.
    Demonstrate depth of expertise in Apiculture, and use knowledge to enrich and guide problem-solving with teams and external stakeholders.
    Identify the need and prepare all necessary Terms of Reference (ToRs) for procuring goods and services.
    Prepare specifications for all machinery and equipment needed for honey processing, in consultation with the electromechanical engineer and project team members, according to the project’s scope outlined in the document.
    Support and supervise hired consultants in the development of training manuals and the execution of beneficiary training sessions.
    Produce, update, and assist in disseminating capacity development materials to enhance project partners’ skills and promote technical expertise and business entrepreneurship within livestock value chains.
    Organize and facilitate workshops and ToT trainings on prioritized activities to stakeholders.
    Coach and mentor ToT trainers and project beneficiaries on effectively cascading training and implementation.
    Assess technical gaps of the regional program staff, implementing partners and beneficiaries, and design and implement capacity building trainings.
    Develop appropriate database and data collection tools in consultation with M&E and livestock team lead and ensure regular data collection with high quality and undertake analysis.
    Identify potential risks that could affect the overall performance of the project.
    Proactively engage with other team members of the ATI and external partners to develop solutions and recommendations to address identified technical issues.
    Liaise with project manager and provide advisory service and capacity building to partners based on the identified gap.
    Provide effective timely and regular upward reporting to the project manager on programmatic and operational issues
    Conduct compiling, validating, and analyzing project data to ensure monthly and quarterly update, and analyses to draw lessons and write quarter, bi-annual and annual reports
    Ensure effective regular communication and reporting with the various stakeholders (government and non-government institutions and the private sector).
    Ensure effective communication (oral, written, digital etc.) among project and institutional team
    Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Federal Project Coordinator.

    About You

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, TRAININGS, AND EXPERIENCE

    Minimum of master’s degree in apiculture or beekeeping, honeybee product processing technology, livestock production or other related fields.
    Minimum of 8 years of professional experiences in the areas of apiculture agribusiness, donor supported apiculture interventions, apiculture value chain related project management, , providing technical support, and implementing youth and women-focused initiatives in agricultural value chains and others directly relevant to the position.
    Good track record of working relationship with beekeepers, honey and wax processors, bee research and training institutions, public and non-governmental organizations, and other actors engaged in apiculture agribusiness
    Experience in providing management guidance and technical oversight
    Extensive experience in implementing and managing donor-funded projects focused on the establishment of youth and women-based enterprises
    Excellent understanding in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), common interest groups, and entrepreneurship and the mechanisms how it functions
    Experience in leading the development of program learning – identify opportunities for learning, research, and publication.

    Program and Position Summary

Additionally, the ADEY program has also been working to create job opportunities for more than 611 youth in Ethiopia by improving access to markets and strengthening MSMEs. Leveraging ATI’s experience, the EWAS project aims to create dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities for young women by establishing enterprises in three value chains, namely grain milling, horticulture collection centers, and honey processing, supporting them through capacity-building, skills development, and provision of essential equipment.
    The Senior Technical Expert II (STE-II)- Agribusiness in Horticulture will provide technical guidance and oversee the implementation of the EWAS project interventions at the federal level, ensuring timely and high-quality results. He/she will integrate and ensure implementation of young women-centric design approach in the project. He/she will directly report to the EWAS Project Coordinator, with matrix reporting to ADEY’s Team Lead for Agribusiness in the Crops, and responsible to oversee and manage planning, execution, monitoring and reporting of the project activities. The position holder will provide supports to the regions on establishment of young women-owned horticulture collection centers, and enhancing their competitiveness through capacity-building and business development services. He/she will oversee value chain and market development with a focus on high-value horticulture commodities and identify and promote innovative solutions and services to increase young women’s engagement in horticulture business.
    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    Lead design and analysis of the horticulture value chain to identify agribusiness opportunities for rural young women. Work closely with partner organizations to identify and analyze agribusinesses and market system constraints and propose market-based solutions to address these constraints.
    Facilitate young women-led horticulture-related business linkages among private sectors, cooperatives, unions, and farmers’ groups that contribute to increasing production, income, and employment.
    Provide technical leadership to facilitate market system/value chain development with a focus on horticulture value chains. In addition, the position will lead market analysis and identification, and the development of business opportunities in the sector.
    Ensure the selected value chains’ multi-stakeholder platform meetings contribute to providing strategic guidance and solving challenges in strengthening the horticulture value chain.
    Facilitate the strengthening of horticulture value chains by introducing and promoting new technologies, productivity improvement training, value addition, and engagement of the private sector in the provision of embedded services.

  • ENABLE Project Data Analyst/Data Manager at Ethiopian Public Health Institute

    Main Duties Include:

    The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) strives to address nutrition and health-related problems by conducting intervention-based research and contributing to the effective implementation of the Health and Food and Nutrition Policies in Ethiopia. To this end, the Nutrition, Environmental Health and Non-Communicable Disease Research Directorate is planning to recruit a data analyst or data manager on a contract basis.
    The work of the Data Analyst or data manger will be guided by a Senior researcher or project PI. He/She will join EPHI to manage ENABLE project trial data, aggregate, and merge data sets for analysis as well as create new data sets of summary statistics for presentation and report.
    The “Enabling environments for NCD risk reduction in Ethiopia” (ENABLE) project is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe (Grant agreement ID: 101137232). ENABLE aims to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Ethiopia by reducing the life-long prevalence of major NCD risk factors among pregnant women through multi-level actions to promote healthy diets, physical activity and reduce exposure to air pollution in a clean and supportive urban environment. The ENABLE project is dedicated to the implementation of pragmatic and effective interventions for promoting healthy diets, physical activity and reduce exposure to air pollution within a health-promoting urban environment for pregnant women and their families from the antenatal care entry point, as well as from the community. EPHI and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), and the consortium is comprised of 9 more international and Ethiopian partners. From Ethiopia, Jimma University (JU), Haramaya University (HU) and Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH), along with international partners from University of Oslo (UiO), Lund University (LU), Uppsala University (UU), Wageningen University (WU), Vital Strategies, and Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR)
    The work of the Data Analyst/data manger will involve:
    Coordinate the research data activities under senior research supervision
    Prepare on data management plan, report and manuscript writing
    Travel to field for data collection and supervision.
    Contributes to proposal development and proposals for institutional review board.
    Coordinate field travels and required logistics.
    Prepare weekly plan and report the same to the project focal.
    Monitor whether the project’s planned activities are going as scheduled or not.
    Participating in regular discussions with other project team members, project consultants and donors.
    Engage in other relevant assignments assigned by project coordinators for the successful deliver of project output.
    Daily follow of the real time data collection and give feedback to field data collectors and supervisors

    Merging data sets or creating new data sets for analysis;
    Creating or deriving new variables from existing data sets;
    Assessing the distribution of variables so that the most appropriate statistical tests are applied;
    Creating, annotating and maintaining syntax files of analysis that record all changes made to variables and the statistical procedures applied so that they can be checked and repeated;
    Methodically storing and cataloguing the syntax files, the output files and any history file of analysis to create a record of the analysis done;
    Creating tables of results and statistical output;
    Creating maps of the distribution of variables;
    Creating graphs and figures to present data;
    Applying best practices in data processing, management and analysis.

    About You

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    PhD or MSc in public health, biostatistics, Epidemiology
    eight years’ experience for MSc holders; six years for PhD holder of work organising and analysing large datasets or clinical trial, ideally health or nutritional in origin, using statistical software.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

    Experience in using statistical software is required; experience with STATA and/or R statistical software would be an advantage.
    An ability to write reports of the analysis done in English.
    Knowledge and experience about food composition, food sample collection, analysis and reporting.
    A proven research experience with demonstrated

  • Area Manager at Save the Children

    TEAM/PROGRAMME: Program Operations

    Child Safeguarding:
    Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
    ROLE PURPOSE: The Area Manager is a senior representative of SCI in the field and a member of the Extended Senior Country Leadership Team, responsible and accountable for the leadership and management of two or more Field Offices and project offices. He/ She will oversee the implementation of the Save the Children program, management staff, and resources and establish excellent working relationships with partners. S/he is also responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of Area office strategies and annual operational plans, and enforcing consistent implementation of Operational Core Business Processes, policies and procedures at all levels.
    Reporting to the DPO, the role supports and facilitates key relationships between the CO Operational team and other CO units (PDQ, HR, Finance, and Safety & Security) with the Field Managers, Area-level support functions (Finance, HR/Admin, Supply Chain, Safety and Security, etc). In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
    SCOPE OF ROLE:

    Overall, the area office staff will consist of up to 100 or more people. There are seven direct reports, including 2-3 Field Managers and Area Office functional leads in Finance, Supply Chain, HR/Admin, Safety and Security, and others as applicable. The overall budget responsibility exceeds $5 million USD annually, with more than 10 active awards from a mix of bilateral and multilateral donors.     Lead the development of Area Strategic Plans, operationalize to goals and objectives, and follow up its implementation.

    Strategic Human Resources Management

    Work closely with the Area Sr. HR and Admin Coordinator as well as the HR Director to ensure that all HR policies and guidelines for national staff are in place, are understood by all staff and are adhered to. Support all managers in recruitment, induction, placement, promotion, training/development and separation/termination
    Enhance staff performance through mutually agreed performance management plans, clarity of individual and collective roles and responsibilities; ensure a robust process of performance monitoring, learning & development initiatives and timely management actions, including full implementation of matrix management system
    Address staff concerns in a timely manner and timely escalate to DPO or SLT for support required.
    Promote an inspiring and motivating working environment through teamwork, delegation and the team building initiatives. Identify and nurture talents, and boost staff motivation for continued excellence

    Budget, Finance and Awards Management

    Serve as overall budget holder for all programming in the area; appoint, manage and support budget holders for individual projects and grants as appropriate.
    Ensure that programme budgets are managed through rigorous budget and finance monitoring practices with participation of all key functions involved in projects.
    Oversee the general application and observance of financial procedures and guidelines set out in SC financial manual and donors’ requirements
    Ensure that budgets are spent and charged to their respective budget heads and grants by diligently reviewing the financial (AGRESSO) reports at least every month and bringing to the timely attention of the DPO and the Finance Director any major budget concerns
    Efficiently and successfully manage the grant cycle by putting in place robust mechanisms to start, implement and close grants in line with donor as well as Save the Children’s policies
    Ensure that adequate support to and monitoring of the field finance teams is provided by the finance and awards team at country office
    Ensure that grants are managed as per Save the Children’s and donors’ requirements including the quality and timely submission of reports
    Establish a good command and oversight of the budget situation in each field office and ensure that field offices are efficient at covering all of their costs.
    Working with colleagues in the PDQ department to ensure the preparation of timely and high-quality progress reports, program reports, and donor reports.

    Compliance and Risk Management

    Ensure full compliance with SCI policy and procedure on HR, SC, Finance, Program and Security Management
    Regular planning and Implementation of Area and Field office Risk Management Plans
    Ensure internal systems and processes are consistently adhered to and meet the purpose
    Coordinate the provision of management response on internal and external audit findings, and follow up its implementation
    Ensure follow up improvement actions identified from monitoring visit by CO and RO team are implemented in a timely manner
    Ensure that partners and SC staff understand and implement Save the Children’s policies and procedures including child safeguarding, procurement, fraud and whistle blowing.

    Networking, Partnership and Representation

    With the support from the Head of Partnership and Localization, establish a quality partnership management environment through mutual respect and trust, robust partnership assessments, capacity building, project monitoring, sharing, and networking by drawing support from technical resources from within the country programme.
    Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with regional, zonal and woreda government authorities, donors, partner agencies including major institutional donors, UN Agencies and local and international NGOs.
    Ensure representation with UN agencies, donors and other INGOs
    Work with partners and SC staff to ensure that effective mechanisms are in place to listen to, act upon and address children’s and communities’ concerns/recommendations through active participation by children and communities in project design, monitoring and evaluations
    Ensure that partners understand and implement Save the Children’s policies and procedures including child safeguarding, procurement, fraud and whistle blowing.

    Security Management

    Responsible for safety and security of all SCI staff and assets in the area and field offices
    In close collaboration with the Director of Security, the Field managers and the Security Focal Points, proactively monitor the political and security situation at both national and local level and ensure that a clear and updated security management plan is in place for all areas of.
    As far as possible ensure that all staff are involved in the sharing of security related information, review of guidelines, protocols and developing security plans that should be formally reviewed on a weekly basis.
    In close collaboration with the Area Security Coordinators and the director of Security, the Field Managers and the Security Focal Points, report and manage any significant security incident in your area of operation. If this involves a “critical incident” the Director of Security, the DPO and the CD must be informed immediately.
    Adapt to security constraints and ensure that staff are adequately aware of security risks and management issues in order to deliver projects for children.
    Support the DPO and the Director of Safety and Security to ensure that all safety and security minimum operating standards and in country guidelines and procedures are met by all area offices. Promote a culture of security awareness and a shared duty of care amongst staff in area teams

    Job Purpose: The purpose of the Senior Technical Assistance responsible for supervising water, sanitation and hygiene activities on daily base to be as of the design, specification, drawing, contract agreement, standard and protocol of WASH infrastructure at community and health facility.
