Job Description: Data Collection and Management Contractor – Solar KumidziPosition OverviewWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Collection and Management Contractor to support our research and programmatic initiatives in rural Malawi. The successful candidate will be gathering, verifying, and managing customer and field research data and will ensure its accuracy, integrity, and security.Key ResponsibilitiesData Collection and Entry: This is the most important responsibility. Call customers as needed to collect information on their solar products and solar product use and impacts. Collect information on customer needs that are not being satisfied and record and relay this information to management. Accurately enter data into google forms or Excel spreadsheets and maintain spreadsheets of customer and research data.Quality Assurance: Monitor data collection processes in the field to ensure adherence to protocols, completeness, and accuracy. Implement spot-checks, audits, and validation procedures to reduce errors and inconsistencies.Data Management: Organize, clean, and securely store paper-based and electronic data. Maintain a clear system for tracking data from collection through entry and analysis, ensuring compliance with data protection policies.Database Administration: Assist with maintaining, updating, and backing up datasets regularly. Edit and manage data entry forms for others to enter data when necessary.Reporting: Report daily and weekly on progress, entering regular reports on web-based google forms.Field Data Collection: Plan and execute structured and semi-structured data collection activities, including household surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observations in rural villages and communities.Ethical Compliance: Ensure that all data collection activities meet both local and international ethical standards, including the safeguarding of participants’ rights, anonymity, and confidentiality.Problem-Solving: Address and resolve operational challenges as they arise, including logistical obstacles, technology limitations, or community concerns, with adaptability and cultural sensitivity.Travel: Travel when needed to remote project sites, sometimes by foot or local transportation, and work in diverse environmental conditions typical of rural Malawi.Qualifications and ExperienceA minimum of diploma in Data science, Information Technology, Statistics or related fields.Previous experience in field data collection, survey implementation, or research coordination, preferably in rural or low-resource settings.Demonstrated proficiency in data entry and management software (e.g., Excel, Google forms, and Google Drive) and familiarity with basic data analysis.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chichewa.Capacity to train and supervise a diverse team of local field staff or enumerators.Experience working with NGOs, research institutes, or government agencies is desirable.Proven ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and adapt to shifting priorities.Commitment to ethical research standards and respect for local customs and traditions.Core CompetenciesIntegrity & Ethics: Demonstrates honesty, reliability, and respect for confidentiality in all activities.Adaptability: Thrives in dynamic, sometimes unpredictable environments; displays resilience under pressure.Cultural Sensitivity: Respects and adapts to local norms, values, and traditions; fosters positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues and partners, sharing knowledge and supporting mutual goals.Initiative and independence: Can self-manage and productively complete work with a minimum of supervision.Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy and reliability in data handling and reporting.Communication: Clearly and respectfully conveys information to technical and non-technical audiences alike.Working ConditionsBased primarily in the company workshop in Blantyre.
