  • Director: Occupational Health And Safety And Environment Director: Office Of The Vice Chancellor

    Lead, direct and coordinate the overall management, development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive occupational health and safety management system that will ensure compliance with the occupational safety and health laws, regulations and industry best practices.
    Develop a high-level strategy for and the roll out of occupational health and safety environmental governance, plans and control mechanisms required to ensure legal compliance and best OHS best practice through implementing a strict set of guidelines.
    Preparing and supporting the implementation of resources and establishing a culture of health and safety.

    KEY ACTIVITIES

    Develop and review an OSH policy framework to ensure compliance with legislation for the effective control of occupational safety and health risks.
    Lead OSH strategic objectives, serve as an expert technical resource for the management executives and provide executive reports on the implementation of OSH management systems.
    Manage a team of occupational safety and health professionals and associated resources to ensure the effective functioning of the OSH Unit.
    Develop OSH management systems inclusive of plans, procedures, safe systems of work and review to monitor their effectiveness.
    Oversee the establishment and maintenance of OSH related documentation and records.
    Establish annual /quarterly work plans for the OSH Unit, establish key performance indicators and evaluate the overall performance of the OSH management system.
    Represent the University on all OSH matters with external professionals and regulatory agencies/bodies.
    Identify OSH training needs and develop and execute an OSH training programme and evaluate its delivery and impact. Develop and implement an OSH Audit Plan in accordance with the OSH Act and Regulations.
    Develop project proposals for inclusion in the University’s development programme and provide oversight and management for OSH project activities.
    Provide strong directional support and guidance with the implementation of OSH operational policies, programmes, procedures etc.
    Undertake major investigations such as incidents resulting in fatalities, occupational diseases, or major property damage.
    Model, promote and influence behavioral and cultural changes through effective leadership and engagement.
    Manage and prepare annual budgetary allocation for functioning of the Occupational Safety and Health Unit.
    Develop and maintain technical competence for the OSH team and provide leadership, coaching and direction for team members.
    Ensures that the strategic establishment of project and / or contractor health, safety and environmental compliance takes place in line with OHS Act requirements.
    Maintain project reporting dashboard for review by directors, vice chancellor and council.
    Develop safety management systems that fullfills the strategy for the implementation of the statutory, moral and ethical requirements for duty of care of employees, students and contractors.
    Meet with the Deans and Managers on a fortnightly basis to ensure the OHS&E Strategy is met.
    Maintain registration with the South African Institute of Safety and Health (SAIOSH) and the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) registration is a mandatory requirement as a Construction Health and Safety professional.
    Meet the appointment requirements as an Employer’s Health and Safety Agent: the
    person appointed as agent by the Employer in terms of Regulation 4(5) of the
    Construction regulations as the being the employer’s agent responsible for health and safety matters.
    Perform other related duties as required.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Master’s degree in a relevant qualification.
    Relevant experience in risk management in project management and operational environment.
    Experience within the corporate and major infrastructure safety management environment.
    8 to 10 years’ relevant experience in developing strategic safety management implementational diverse management environments. With experience in major in infrastructure health, safety and environment monitoring and reporting.
    Experience in the preparation and presentation of health, safety and environment reporting leading and lagging indicators.
    Experience in understanding, interpretation and preparation of planned health, safety and environment strategies and compliance in both business and project environment. Extensive knowledge of health, safety and environment in all corporate, building and engineering services and how they are integrated with health, safety and environment processes and controls.
    Knowledge of OHS Act and regulations.
    Knowledge of NEMA.

    A dataset repository already exists; however, customers frequently request updates, refreshes, or modifications based on evolving clinical and operational needs.

    The CRC will: 

    Consolidate existing datasets into the central archive.
    Ensure datasets are available to internal and external stakeholders as required.
    Proactively engage with customers and internal stakeholders to design, develop, and update datasets in line with business and clinical requirements.

    Driving Set Utilisation (Commercial Enablement)

    The CRC will work closely with the commercial and sales teams to:

    Define minimum requirements and success metrics for increasing set utilisation.

    This role is critical in closing the gap between device deployment and optimal consumable utilisation.

    Market Shaping & Clinical Leadership

    The CRC will lead and support the clinical market-shaping agenda through:

    Structured clinical engagements.
    Education and best-practice alignment with both new and existing customers.

    The CRC will act as the clinical custodian and trusted advocate for the Medication Management Solutions (MMS) portfolio, including:

    Infusion systems.
    Sets and consumables.
    Dispensing and broader MMS solutions where relevant.

    Strong clinical leadership and subject matter expertise is required to:

    Influence adoption.
    Shape clinical practice.
    Support market development aligned to strategic objectives.

    Requirements

    Essential Qualifications and Personal Skills and Attitudes:

    Registered Nurse (preferably experienced or qualified Critical Care Nurse) minimum five-years of experience.
    Proficient in MS Office.
    Excellent clinical knowledge and familiarity with infusion devices.
    Preferable teaching/training experience.
    A strong desire to develop the skills and knowledge of others.
    Confident in giving presentations to small and large groups.
    Demonstrates excellent communication skills that work effectively with all levels of customers.
    Well organized, able to prioritize appropriately, and displays good time management skills.
    A reliable and supportive team player.
    Be available to work outside normal working hours/away from home as deemed necessary (above 60% of time on occasions).
    Must maintain and provide timely and complete reports of activity as required.
    Must maintain and share a 6-week schedule with the Sales and Marketing Manager.
    Must follow Company policies and procedures.
    Language: Fluency in English (Speak, Read, Write) A local language will be beneficial.

    Clinical Training & Education

    Deliver high-quality clinical training on MMS infusion devices to customers in the assigned territory.
    Minimum 8 training sessions (or as scheduled) per month with post training evaluations.
    Ensures correct clinical application of devices and supports business growth.
    Improve clinical competence and confidence of end-users.
    Achieve attendee average ≥ 4/5 in training evaluations and ≥80% pass rate on competency assessments.

    Installations & Clinical Support

    Support installation and clinical adoption of infusion devices.
    Work within cross-functional coordination and project planning.
    Ensures customer’s clinical readiness post-installation.
    Leverage follow-up visits and remote support.

    Clinical Expertise & Professional Development

    Stay updated on IV therapy, infusion systems, and relevant guidelines.

    Address clinical queries and support requests promptly.
    Average response time < 48 hours.
    Escalates customer complaints as soon as made aware, and within a maximum time of 48 hours.

    We’re on the lookout for an experienced Draughtman to create detailed engineering drawings of machinery and plant using computer software to convert the concepts and plans of mill engineers into technical drawings which assist in the seamless implementation of new projects, modifications, and additions within the Mill.

    As a Draughtsman, you will be responsible for:

    Complete an on-site inspection of the proposed work area and collect all relevant information by taking measurements and photographs of the work to be completed
    Inspect the position of the existing equipment or pipework to determine if the new installation can be completed without interference or disruption to the existing plant
    Assess the proposed concept and ensure the instructions are clear by communicating with the plant representative at all times
    Liaise with engineers and fabricators with the knowledge of the chief draughtsman to make the necessary improvements on designs and identify ways to make the design stronger, safer, and more cost-effective
    Assign a suitable number to the drawing to be created and enter it into the  drawing register and database with the correct drawing title
    Plan work to be completed according to the lead times set by the engineer requesting the work to submit drawings within the time frames
    Create technical drawings for all engineering disciplines on purpose-designed machinery and as-built equipment using Autocad, Inventor, or Plant 3D on a daily basis
    Create drawings as requested for piping, isometrics, bill of materials, plant layouts, structural, electrical, instruments, and mechanical parts, which are error-free, legible, and easy to understand
    Prepare a material take-off list with clear specifications of quantity, sizes, and material of construction required for tender purposes
    Complete drawings on time according to set Sappi standards and specifications
    Use creative sense to sketch and create drawings as per requirements outlined, if no concept exists, and refer for approval by the chief draughtsman and the requesting engineer
    Deliver drawings on time, adhering to customer requirements to prevent customer complaints and comebacks
    Review the final drawing and cross-check to identify any errors or oversights using the necessary checklists to assist
    Update flowsheets (P&ID) of specific installations, describing all equipment in the plant
    Modify drawings daily for plant, electrical, and instrument machinery on Autocad
    Update and input information on the  Data view system regularly to ensure data is accurate and always available for use
    Provide a service to the mill by creating PDFs and prints of drawings to be issued by the Chief Draughtsman to Engineers, Buyers, and contractors
    Align all drawings created to approved standards of fabrication and safety, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

    What are we looking for?

    NQF level 5 (N5 in Draughting, Engineering studies, or related equivalent)
    3 years of relevant experience in an engineering environment
    Plant 3D piping would be advantageous
    Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
    Computer-literate in MS Office suites
