    Job Purpose:
    The Grader Operator is responsible for operating a motor grader to construct, maintain, and repair roads, mine haulage routes, drainage systems, and other earthworks. The role ensures safe, efficient, and precise grading operations to support smooth site operations.
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Operate a motor grader safely and efficiently in compliance with company and statutory safety regulations.
    • Perform road grading, leveling, shaping, and maintenance of haul roads, access roads, and work areas.
    • Cut and spread materials such as gravel, sand, and soil to required specifications.
    • Maintain road camber and drainage for water runoff to prevent road damage.
    • Conduct daily pre-start checks, routine inspections, and basic maintenance on the grader.
    • Report mechanical faults or damages promptly to the supervisor/mechanics.
    • Follow project plans, surveyor instructions, and line markings for accuracy in grading.
    • Ensure the grader is cleaned, fueled, and properly parked after use.
    • Adhere strictly to occupational health, safety, and environmental policies.
    • Assist in other earthmoving or site works as directed.
    Qualifications and Experience:
    • Grade 12 Certificate (minimum).
    • Valid Heavy-Duty Equipment Operator’s License/Certification.
    • Proven experience operating a motor grader in road construction, mining, or civil works.
    • Knowledge of road construction standards and drainage principles.
    • Ability to perform minor servicing and fault identification on equipment.

    ARTISAN MACHINIST × 2 – OFFCROP
    MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)
    This position reports to the Lead Artisan – Machine Workshop. The successful candidates will be responsible for implementing preventative, reactive, and predictive maintenance initiatives and plans to reduce costs and downtime.
    Key Performance Areas

    Implement the “Illovo Way of Maintenance” (iAMP) on all mechanical equipment maintenance to ensure Illovo is the world class sugar producer.
    Ensure compliance to minimum operating standards.
    Promote cross-discipline functional and stakeholder engagement as well as teamwork.
    Promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and drive continuous improvement throughout operations by using best practices
    Execute stop day or opportunity stops / shut down activities timeously.
    Carry out machine maintenance to achieve maximum plant availability and equipment capacity as per OEMs and Illovo procedures.
    Read engineering drawings and manufacture parts or spare as per drawing.
    Perform machining operations on the lathe machine.
    Machine keys and keyways on shaping and milling machine as required.
    Uses drilling machine to drill specific machine parts and other required size holes.
    Perform machining operations on the boring machine.
    Carry out operations on the press, and the reciprocating power saw machines.
    Work all jobs to the specified tolerances for perfect fitting.
    Perform standby duties when called upon by the Supervisor.
    Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks.
    Contribute to the RCA process in your section possessing a positive mind set and elimination of failure.
    Monitor own section KPIs, understand your contribution to them, contribute to solutions to resolve out of spec KPIs and maintain actions to sustain KPIs being within spec.
    Execute work for stop day, shut-down and off-crop maintenance activities on the plant equipment and carry out the machining timeously without delay to production.
    Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

    Minimum Qualifications

    Grade 12 Certificate
    Craft Certificate in Machining
    2+ years post experience in a robust plant environment

    Perform pipe cutting, threading and connecting galvanised, steam, copper and PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes up to 100mm.
    Repair and install work on steam, air, water and oil piping systems.
    Install and maintain gutters and flashing systems.
    Install piping, sanitary and electrical geysers
    Work hand-in-hand with Civils Department and assist from time to time on plumbing matters
    Remove and replace defective valves up to 100mm in diameter size.
    Use the offhand grinding machines.
    Ensure that all defects identified during specific route inspections are documented on the checklist feedback with immediate action plan to mitigate significant risks for closure.
    Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the condition of pipe thread cutting equipment on a continuous basis and take responsibility for failures resulting from inadequate equipment specific inspection.
    Contribute to the RCA process in your section possessing a positive mind set and elimination of failure.
